About DOIs

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) are permanent codes that are assigned to most modern scholarly articles. Unlike URLs, which often change, DOIs stay the same so that students and researchers can easily access academic content.

DOIs may look like:

  • 10.1186/s41239-026-00578-w

How do I find a DOI?

The DOI will be printed with the article itself, usually on the first page of an article below the title or header. If you are reading the article as a PDF, use the shortcut CTRL+F (CMD+F on Mac) to open a search box. Then type DOI to find it within the article.

Note: Not all articles have a DOI.
